Creating a New Dialup Connection

Step 1:

Click on Start and then click on Control Panel

Step 2:

Depending on how your Control Panel is setup, you will see either 9 or 10 icons or a lot more.

* If you have 9-10 icons look for the first icon, then towards the bottom
you should see the second icon, select this one.
* If you have more than 10 icons then click onto the second icon.

Step 3: Creating The New Connection

Click on 'Create A New Connection', this can be found in the top left of the screen.

Step 4: Choose Connection Type

Choose the first option in the list, "Connect to the Internet", then click Next.

Step 5: Configuration Type

We will set up the connection manually. Choose this option and click Next.

Step 6: Connection Device

Choose the first option, "Connect using a dial-up modem". Click Next.

Step 7: Connection Name

The name you type here is not very important. Whatever you type here will be the name of the connection on the computer. If you type Hande, it will say "Connect to Hande".

Step 8: Phone Number

When you connect with dialup, your computer makes a phone call. Our dialup phone number is 0198 333 237, from anywhere in Australia. Enter this number in with no spaces.

Step 9: Account Information

Enter the username and password you chose when you applied. Usernames will always end in "@hande.net.au". You must type your password a second time to confirm it.

This first checkbox allows other Windows user accounts on your computer to dial the Internet connection.

Step 10: Completion

Tick ' Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop '. Then click finish.

Step 11: Connection

The following window should appear, then click onto 'Properties'.

If not, there is no modem installed or detected. Please call Helpdesk or your local computer technician for further help.

Step 12: Connection Settings

Click on 'Options'. Click on the drop down box for ' Idle Time Before Hanging Up' and select 'never'. Then click 'OK'.

Optional: Uncheck 'Redial if line is dropped' if you would like to stop the computer automatically redialling if your are disconnected from the internet.
